Concerts are back, which means Colorado is finally getting back to normal! Local and national bands are starting to perform and bring back Denver’s nightlife. Although COVID presents its challenges, venues throughout the state are actively using methods to keep everyone safe!  Most venues are requiring proof of full vaccination, a negative test within 72 hours of the show, and still enforcing masks. Keeping musicians, staff, and fans is the most important part of keeping these concerts going. August 24th local band VYNYLl was able to have their first concert in over a year at Globe Hall. Slex Allen and Neon the Bishop were also on the bill and made it the perfect line up.

Globe Hall has hosted previous shows during COVID and getting to be back to a normal concert setting was amazing. To start off the show Slex Allen performed his first live set, even though he has performed with his other band, Optycnerd. He had the entire crowd moving from the start to the end, his music is so easy to dance to and enjoy even without knowing the words.Alongside him was Casino Perosi on bass, having him there completely enhanced the music and performance. He played his song “Dali - Remix” and every person in the crowd was jumping to the beat, and loving every moment of it. At the end he brought the lead singer of VYNYL on stage to help perform his remix of their single “Who Could You Be”. Overall, his confidence on stage and charisma totally won over the crowd.

Neon the Bishop followed Slex Allen, and they have such a live stage presence, starting off with the ominous music and mask they get you excited, and then lead into an almost theatrical performance. The all white outfits tie the band together simply, keeping the focus on their music. Each member of the band easily captivated the crowd by dancing with them and keeping them involved. Mario, one of the members in the band had such a great view on the show, despite COVID conditions.
“This show was the band’s first time back at Globe Hall in a long time. It’s always a cool feeling when to start visibly notice the crowd learning the lyrics to the songs and singing along. It’s a turning point really. I remember the very first stages of our songs, just imagining that one day they might be known by more than the five of us and our families. I feel like we got to live that out at this show.  And it’s always a fun time playing shows with VYNYL, and Slex Allen put on a great first show. The night itself felt exactly the way a late summer concert should. That’s something I think we all needed.”

VYNYL put so much emotion into this show, and had at least a few people crying by the end. They have been releasing music since the beginning of COVID  and the growth in their music and performance has been insane. While singing “beautiful.feeling” off their latest EP THE WORLD IS ON FIRE AND I’M LONELY, the whole band got so into it and you could tell how much being back on stage meant to them. The crowd was full of day one fans, significant others, family and friends, but also brand new fans. But overall the show was personal and intimate show. Emma Hancock had never been to a Vynyl show or any other local show, she was blown away with the relationships the bands build with the crowd.
“I had never seen a local band before, I also had never seen a concert at such a small venue. It was really cool how the band comes out before the concert to talk with people. It’s really cool that they are able to form relationships with the people who come to their concerts, the concert had a very different feel than a large one. It’s much more personal than any other concert that I have been to. You can tell that the band really does care about the people who listen to their music. They really get into the concert and you can tell that they love what they are doing. 10/10 would recommend seeing a local band at a small venue. I can’t wait for my next concert.”

Here’s to more concerts, and a huge thank you to the venue, promoters, fans, and especially  the bands for making these shows possible! Click below to listen to Slex Allen, Neon the Bishop, and VYNYL!
